Movie Review: Maleficent

Anyone who knows me well knows I love villains… I see villains as an element a good story can’t do without and often find myself being more drawn to the villain’s story than the protagonists; if they are done correctly.

So it’s a no brainer when I say that I was extremely ecstatic when I found out that Disney was producing a live action movie based on one of my favorite Disney villains of all time; Maleficent

I’ve watched this movie in it’s opening week but waited for a bit to review to let everyone else see it to avoid ruining the movie for anyone reading this blog … So this review will contain major spoilers.

Growing up watching Disney Princess movies, you get to see a wide variety of different villains but we both agree that our favorite villain is Maleficent … for the sole reason behind that is because she completely terrified us. No other villain made us feel as scared as Maleficent did

As I grew older, my appreciation for this character grew;  normally for a villain to make an impression on me; their motivations and backstories play a major role of what my option of them would be but in Maleficent’ s case; she did not need either. Even for a cartoon character, she had a presence in her that was both demanding and threatening; you paid attention when she was on-screen. She was surrounded by mystery that you cannot help but wonder more about her. She not only struck fear in us but despite having so little screen time in the Disney animated movie; you can tell that everyone knew who she was and everyone feared her. I mean; she sentenced a baby to death just because she was not invited to a party!

So when we were going to get a movie all about this character I began to wonder on the possibilities of which direction would they go.

What I’m Watching

So I was inspired by my dear friend Dazzling mage who posted in her blog yesterday a post all about the TV shows that she is currently watching and her thoughts about them. I thought I would do the same for the shows that I’m watching and offer my thoughts about them.

Attack on titans (Shingeki no Kyojin)

So I’ve been on an anime withdrawal for a couple of years now. It actually depressed me how I have forgotten my love for anime since I have always been a fan ever since I was a child. My withdrawal was as a result of any new anime show that came out not holding my attention; I always thought that the new stuff was nowhere as interesting or gripping as the shows I watched from my childhood. A couple of weeks ago, my whole family (even the ones who made fun of my anime addiction) began watching Shingeki no Kyojin aka Attack on Titans and have been constantly nagging at me to watch it. I came into it, not expecting much seeing how the last couple of new anime shows disappointed me.

From the first episode, I was BLOWN AWAY! Literally hooked!

I have not seen an anime show that had this type of suspense, animation and characters in a long time!

It defiantly deserved the hype it’s getting

And the soundtrack is to DIE for!

Once upon a time Season 2

I loved OUAT since it’s premiere. I thought the first season was so clever in how they twisted fairytales around and brought everyone’s storyline together. There are characters in this show that have taken spots in my TOP Favorite lists.

Season 2, I thought wasn’t as good. I found the storylines a little sloppy and not as interesting. Although I did like Hook as a addition to the cast =p

While it wasn’t up to my expectation, I will be watching season 3 just to see how the characters will interact with each other and see how fairytale characters come to life in the show.

Until next time

Game of Thrones S3 Expecations

After months of waiting and waiting and waiting

Season 3 of the Game of Thrones series is FINALLY premiering tonight

I am a HUGE fan of the books and a huge fan of the series.

The Song of Ice & Fire book series has become one of my favorite books. I’ve read the first 3 books back in 2012 and it traumatized me (in a good way) especially the third book that I had to put the series down to absorb everything that went on in Book 3, A Storm of Swords.

And yet, despite all that, A Storm of Swords is probably my favorite book in the series so far.

Tonight, is the premier of Season 3 of the Game of Thrones series and this season will be an adaptation of part 1 of the A Storm of Swords since they did say that they’ll split this book into two seasons.

I’ve loved the how the TV adaptation has been so far, I think the actors were an excellent choice to cast and the first two seasons met my expectations.

I am concerned to some degree from two things

  1. They did say that this season will have the most changes made to it from the book so I’m very concerned as to what are these changes and whether or not they’d be good changes or bad changes
  2. There are a couple of scenes where I’m so looking forward to seeing on screen and to not give anything away, it’s to do to a wedding (not saying anything else)

I am very optimistic about the series; I am looking forward to seeing these characters on screen especially Jaime, Brienne, Sansa and Tyrion. I have complete faith in the actors and I hope the series gives these characters the justice they deserve

Who else is excited for the premier of Season 3 of the Game of Thrones series?
